Oscillators for IEEE 1588 Protocol Applications
Oscillator Requirements for IEEE 1588
Generally, for any IEEE 1588 applications, key oscillator parameters are:
- Standard frequency stability (Frequency vs. Temperature and Aging)
- Phase Noise and Jitter
- Short- and medium-term stability (ADEV or MTIE/TDEV).
- In some less sync constrained IEEE 1588 applications, the standard Ethernet type XO with ±20ppm frequency stability is generally sufficient
- More sync constrained IEEE 1588 applications such as Telecom, Audio and video networks requires oscillators that meet specific short and medium term stability
- Telecommunication wire line applications requirements are defined by industry synchronization standards such as:
-
-
- Telcordia GR-1244, GR-253,
- ITU-T G.812/G.813,
- ITU-T G.8261/G.826
-
-
- Telecommunication wireless applications requirements are defined by system requirements such as:
-
-
- LTE frequency accuracy 50ppb, time accuracy 3-10µs
- WiMAX frequency accuracy 50ppb, time accuracy 5-25µs
- Audio and Video has to conform with IEEE 802.1AS-2011
