Oscillators Optimized for Optical DSP Applications


Today, fiber optic cables are one of the most important conduits for transporting information through telecommunication networks. Information is transmitted by modulating the amplitude and the phase of light using a technique called coherent optical transmission. Optical signals are transmitted back and forth through the same fiberoptic cable by using optical transceivers at both ends of the cable. Optical transceivers are designed to allow both a transmitter and a receiver to cohabitate. This allows the creation of a full duplex link on a bidirectional fiber optic cable.

Digital Signal Processors (DSP) used inside optical transceivers at both ends of the fiber optic link, allow increased transmission speeds all the way to 800G, simpler circuitry and improved optical performance. Digital Signal Processors require high frequency, ultra-low jitter clock oscillators, VCXOs and VCSOs as a frequency reference.

Raltron has a complete line of oscillators designed to be compatible with or to serve as a reference design for some of the foremost optical DSPs used in optical transceivers.
